THE owner demolished the original home on this 1045sq m block and built this impressive architect-designed residence in 2008.
They liked that it was close to UWA, major hospitals, the river and the beach, and many good schools, and wanted a home with French/European style to display their antique collections and artwork.
Two double garages flank a gatehouse-style entry with wrought-iron gates which leads past a landscaped courtyard, with manicured hedges and magnolias and a gallery to the two-storey residence.
A great deal of care was put into bringing the owner’s vision to life and the home has a superb level of luxury throughout, with European oak parquetry flooring, imported custom-cut granite and travertine stonework, soaring ceilings and a stunning curved staircase with antique finials.
The main living area is upstairs, where a huge open-plan family/dining/kitchen/meals area opens to a balcony at either end, one with a built-in barbecue and kitchen.
There is also a study and the master bedroom with open-plan ensuite with central freestanding bath, and walk-in robe on this floor.
The owner said the family area was his favourite spot in the house; it has extensive river views across to Applecross and the hills and was self-contained for his wife and himself.
“The children can have their own space at the bottom level,” he said.
The ground-floor layout includes four bedrooms with built-in robes, three bathrooms, a media room and a family area.
With ample space inside and out, the house lends itself to entertaining.
One occasion holds special memories for the owner.
“We held my son’s wedding party last year with about 200 guests,” he said.
“We had a band and food catered and served in the courtyard.”
With the children in homes of their own, the owner is seeking to downsize.
“The house is a bit big for the two of us,” he said
Other features include a lift, climate control, touch-pad security system, intercom, electric blinds and reticulation.
