OWNER Jill Marshall was initially attracted to the location of this charming, turn-of-the-century weatherboard home and fell in love when she saw inside.
“I am a sucker for period features and the fact this house had pressed metal walls and ceilings blew me away,” she said.
The delightful cottage also has a bullnose veranda, high ceilings, stained glass insert in the front door and jarrah floorboards.
Mrs Marshall carried out some renovations, including finding matching pressed metal panels to repair some of the walls.
The home has two living areas, one with a feature fireplace and the other with a slow-combustion wood-fired heater that heats the whole house; this is Mrs Marshall’s favourite room.
“I refer to it as the sun room,” she said.
“It is cosy and warm in winter and beautiful and sunny in the summer.
“It is the perfect room to sit and read at any time of the year.”
The kitchen and dining area were renovated in 2015, with pine panelling and exposed beams removed to create a gleaming, modern space filled with light.
The home has three queen-sized bedrooms and one bathroom, with a bath/shower and timber vanity unit, that has also been updated.
Outside you can sit on the front veranda and watch the world go by or relax in the rear outdoor area and look over the lovely gardens.
The home is on an 817sq m block that also includes a workshop/studio – an outbuilding with the potential to become another living space or artist’s retreat.
It is only two streets from Busselton’s main street and Mrs Marshall said it was fabulously convenient to be able to walk into town to shop or go out for dinner or drinks.
The iconic jetty and beach are also nearby.
