RICHARD and Leigh Matsinger were trying to find a home with a flexible design to suit their family as their children got older when they bought this home in 2008.
“We had toyed with the idea of building and came close, but when we walked through this home, as much for ideas as anything, we realised that it ticked all of our boxes and (thought) what was the point spending the best part of two years dealing with builders and councils and the added cost of renting,” they said.
“We wanted multiple living areas so as our children got older they had somewhere to have friends over, but also a guest area for friends and family visiting to stay.”
They knew the moment they walked in they would love living here.
“We could see that as our children became adults we could live happily together, but with areas for each of us to retreat to and that they could entertain their friends while we could still enjoy our time at home.” Mr and Mrs Matsinger said.
“We loved the quiet location and that it had easy access to the beach, an easy commute for our children to get to school and then university, and to get into the CBD.”
The well-presented two-storey home on a 488sq m block was a custom design built in 2005-06.
It has three levels over the two floors.
The lowest includes a game room that opens to a patio and garden, kitchenette, powder room, cellar and storeroom off the double garage.
It is a versatile room and has hosted parties, group projects, big sleepovers, an exchange student and the owners’ daughter and husband while they looked for their family home.
“We have had so many happy occasions: birthdays, engagement parties, wedding, post-wedding brunch and baby showers with a marquee on the front lawn,” Mr and Mrs Matsinger said.
“There is the perfect access for caterers having the kitchenette, and the family room spilling on to the lawn with a marquee allowed us to cater for well over 100 guests and a dance floor.”
Upstairs, a lounge/media room and open-plan living/dining/kitchen area open to a balcony with views across treetops to the city and the Perth Hills during the day and the city lights and fireworks at night.
Mr and Mrs Matsinger said the kitchen and living area were the heart of their home.
“It’s the perfect kitchen to be cooking and chatting to our kids about the day’s activities,” they said.
“The views are spectacular and we love watching the sunset and the city lights appear while we sit on the balcony with a glass of wine and the changing seasons and weather, and storms approach.”
The upstairs layout also includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a powder room.
The spacious master has a walk-in robe and large ensuite.
The three other bedrooms have built-in robes and the main bathroom includes a bath and shower.
The home and location have been ideal for the family, but with their children now in their own homes with their own families, Mr and Mrs Matsinger are downsizing to have more time to travel and spend with their grandchild.
“We love our neighbourhood and our neighbours,” they said.
“It is so quiet and any traffic, which is not much, are our neighbours coming home or people visiting.
“We love the green space, proximity to shops, beach, restaurants, the city and public transport.”
