THE owner has lived in this delightful character home for 20 years and loved every minute.

She liked Subiaco’s proximity to the city and freeway and was attracted to this three-bedroom, one-bathroom house in particular because it was on a 331 sq m corner block and had period features.

It continues to charm her.

“I really love the look of the house when you come through the front gate; the wide veranda and tuck-pointed brickwork are very inviting,” she said.

“I also love that every window looks out on to greenery.

“I find this a very calming view, which is not always easy to find in such an inner-city location.”

Built in 1910, the home has the period features you would expect to see in homes built at that time, including polished jarrah floorboards, high ceilings, ornate ceiling roses, and fireplaces in the lounge room and third bedroom.

There is also a cellar that is accessed from the large kitchen.

Over the years the owner carried out several renovations to improve the versatility of the home.

“I enclosed the side veranda to add an extra entertaining area and better utilise the winter sun on this north aspect of the house,” she said.

“It’s now a really lovely place to have breakfast and read the papers on the weekend.”

She also installed a timber deck at the back of the home and paved the backyard to enhance the easy-care nature of the garden.

“This is my favourite part of the house and flows straight out of the kitchen,” she said.

“I love entertaining outside and my friends and I have made so many happy memories in this space over the years.

“I love that I don’t have to spend a lot of time sweeping outside, but there’s still lots of green to be seen while sitting here.”

The backyard also includes the laundry, storeroom and a carport that can be accessed from Churchill Avenue.

The friendly neighbourhood and convenient location have also charmed the owner.

“It’s always nice to know that if you’re outside, doing a bit of gardening, there’s a good chance that someone you know will say hello and stop for a chat,” she said.

“And I love that it’s just a three-minute walk for a decent coffee, and not much further to a supermarket, bookshop, or post office.

“In the evenings it’s so easy to walk over for a drink and dinner, and not have to worry if just one more will tip you over the limit.

“On the weekends it’s five minutes to King’s Park, where it’s easy to forget how close you are to the city as you walk through the bushland.”

The owner has moved interstate and is selling with a heavy heart.

“Some say it’s just a house, but I’ve had so many wonderful memories tied up with this one that it’s hard to say goodbye,” she said. “It has been a part of my life for so many years; I’ve had so many birthday parties and New Year’s Eve gatherings here.

“I got engaged and married while living in this house, and it’s the first house my husband and I lived in together.”
