LUXURY waterfront living is not limited to the western suburbs and there are some great benefits to living a little further east.
This grand home is on a 4017sq m block, with amazing views. river frontage, tennis court and its own private jetty, offering the owners direct access to Rottnest Island.
“We’ve had many memorable times using our jetty as the meeting point for family and friends, going to Australia Day ceremonies, restaurants and wineries up and down the river, and of course there’s the Avon event once a year when people will join us for a barbecue on the patio deck,” they said.
The owners already lived on the street and knew and loved the area when they bought the home.
“When the property came on the market, we had only seen it from the road and had no idea of its connection with the river,” they said.
“We discussed the possibility of moving down the street so that we could get our own private jetty and buy a boat because we loved visiting Rotto.
“When we first had a look at the home we had an instant feeling of homeliness and peace.
“The amazing setting of the home so close to the river took our breath away; it was even better than we imagined.
“Because there is no housing on the river bank opposite us, it is full of trees and bird life, the colours of the sunsets and sunrises are stunning each day, and the bird life and activity on the river, makes us feel like we are living in a holiday resort every day.”
They also liked the home’s proximity to several private schools and the space and privacy it offered family members.
The home was built in the early 1980s, extended by the previous owners in the mid-1990s and the current owners have carried out some fantastic renovations of their own.
It built over three levels.
The main floor includes an open-plan living/dining/sitting area with timber-panelled ceiling and kitchen with timber cabinetry and scullery.
It opens to a spacious alfresco area, spa and heated infinity pool where you can enjoy the gorgeous river views.
There is also an office, lounge room with gas fireplace and timber-panelled foyer where a window frames a view of the pool and river, and two master bedrooms that share a bathroom on this floor.
Upstairs there are four more bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study/retreat area.
The lowest level includes the garage, cellar and an open-plan games/pool room with a bar that has a viewing window to the pool.
The owner said while it was a bit like a man cave, it suited the whole family and was one of their favourite rooms.
“Any one of the family could escape to this space and feel like it was their own,” he said.
“This space was always hijacked by the kids when they had sleepovers or pyjama parties.”
For himself, the owner said it might seem strange to say it is a favourite space, but he loves the little workshop and the small garage for the ride-on mower.
“I use the task of doing the lawns with a ride-on mower to escape the stresses of the week and it is very satisfying as the property looks so good after a quick whip-around,” he said.
The mower is included in the sale.
Fabulous, magnificent, impressive, the property is certainly all these things, but is has also been a wonderful home for the owners, a place where their children have grown up and they have celebrated significant birthdays for themselves and many of their extended family.
“I think we’ve celebrated every decade as far as birthdays are concerned,” the owner said.
They have also enjoyed the community atmosphere.
“There is the North Road Cup, an annual tennis tournament with local friends that has more to do with drinks and cheese platters between games than the actual tennis,” they said.
Their children are now grown up and sadly the owners are separating and moving on to a new chapter in their lives, so the residence offers an opportunity for a new family to call it home for the next 20 years or more.
