THIS home is full of surprises; its subtly elegant, but unassuming exterior gives no clue to the delights that await inside.

This was the owners intention.

When they built the home in 2009, they wanted something that looked modest from the front, but was extremely open and spacious on the inside.

They also wanted a timeless and contemporary style.

“We engaged Christian Lyon to help with the interior to ensure that the home still felt warm and homely, whilst having large open spaces and 4.2m ceilings,” they said.

“We also engaged a quality builder to ensure all the finishes were up to our expectations.”

Built over three levels, and costing more than $3 million to build, the 590sq m home delivers on the owners expectations.

It is likely to remain one-of-a-kind; the owners said tightened restrictions mean homes of this size will no longer be approved by the local council.

Another unique feature is the block size; at 814sq m it is unusually large for Shenton Park.

Buyers will be able to enjoy the home as it is presented as the owners are selling nearly all of the furniture with the house.

You enter the home to a gallery foyer which leads to the open-plan living, dining, kitchen zone with soaring ceilings, tiled flooring and timber wall panelling.

“This is our favourite place in the house and we find that we live in this spce most of the time,” the owners said.

“It is large enough that our family can all be engaged in different activities at the same time without getting in each other’s way.”

A special feature of this zone is the box-kite light that was custom made for the living room.

The owners said it was not only functional but allowed the space to not feel cavernous and added a really interesting piece of detail to the area.

The stylish kitchen has a long stone-topped island bench, top of the range appliances including St George side-opening double ovens, Neff warming drawer and microwave oven, and Miele integrated dishwasher and induction cooktop.

It also has filtered water, soft-close drawers, an appliance cupboard and walk-in pantry.

The living area opens to the alfresco area with a high timber-lined ceiling, honed aggregate flooring, built-in kitchen with barbecue, integrated fridge, stone benchtops and an outdoor shower.

The backyard has low-maintenance synthetic turf and includes a swimming pool.

A theatre room with quality cabinetry and luxe finishes also opens to the alfresco area.

Reminiscent of a five-star hotel, the luxurious master bedroom, with walk-in robe, ensuite with double shower and large bath, has access to the poolside courtyard.

The children’s wing has two large bedrooms with bespoke shelving and study desks, built-in robes, storage and a chic bathroom with a double vanity unit.

Downstairs, the basement level includes a games room with plenty of storage and CCTV – the kids can play while parents keep an eye on them.

A guest suite, with a living area and kitchenette, bedroom, ensuite and study is upstairs.

While the home exudes glamour, it is not just for show; it is a family home and has played host to many a party.

“We have done a lot of entertaining,” the owners said.

“The fantastic thing about this house is its ability to have lots of separate things going on.

“The living room can be completely separated from the bedrooms by closing the cavity sliding doors; they are almost sound proof.

“I remember a night where we had 50 people over and the kids were soundly sleeping in their bedrooms.

“We have also made excellent use of the backyard and alfresco area.

“The pool is gas heated so we have been able to heat it to 35 degrees and have pool parties all year round, which is a novelty.”

The home also has a double garage with storage, as well as a third, undercroft garage with workshop space.

Other features include C-Bus wiring throughout, Sonos sound system, CAT 6 data cabled throughout, ducted air conditioning, floor heating in tiled areas, LED energy efficient lighting, security system including five recording cameras and back-to-base monitoring, motorised drapes in main living areas and main bedroom, and heated towel rails in the bathrooms.

The owners have lived in the home for eight years and have loved the location, between Subiaco and Claremont.

“It is so convenient for the city and schools as well,” they said.

“Shenton Park has a lot of parks and amenities and our house has access to a newly renovated park across the road and is walking distance to the lake and Onslow Rd shopping precinct.”

“Our home is especially close to Rosalie Primary School and Shenton College and access to the private schools is much easier too as you are going against the traffic.”
