THE owner discovered Union Street, and this home, by chance

“I took a wrong turn during a walk down Hamersley Road,” they said.

“I recall thinking it was so beautiful, with kids playing in the street and mature peppermint trees providing welcome respite from the summer sun.

“I remember the distinct impression everyone had a sense of pride about their family homes, and that we too wanted to be part of the community.

“We placed an offer on the house after the first open home.”

The home they purchased was a rammed earth structure built in 1990 and they had it completely remodelled, wanting a home a reminiscent of their international travels, with a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces and views of the gardens from every room,

They enlisted the services of Doepel Marsh Architects to help realise their vision, while the landscaping was designed and completed by Origin Landscapes.

The owners describe the new residence as modernist architecture with a grand entrance, functional layout and lush landscaping.

The rooms certainly do have lovely outlooks.

“I love the sunsets we can see from the study window at the front of the house,” the owner said.

“It’s a perfect viewing height, and private enough that no one can see us

“It’s also glorious to wake up to the sunlight pouring into our outdoor alfresco area and our second lounge/ library in the morning.

“Breakfast or lunch outside with the birds chirping in the garden is one of life’s greatest luxuries.”

From an impressive entrance, the home’s layout leads past a bathroom and the study, to the bedrooms, all with built-in robes.

The master has his-and-hers built-in robes and an ensuite with double shower and double vanity unit.

With the sleeping quarters all at the front of the home, they can be closed off from the living areas, allowing parents to entertain while the children sleep peacefully.

The back of the home includes a lounge, laundry/scullery and open-plan living/dining/kitchen area with a fireplace.

Both the lounge and living area open to a huge alfresco area with stunning glass roof.

A charming studio at the back of the 539sq m block provides accommodation for guests, an au pair or boarder, or could be a wonderful place to enjoy artistic pursuits.

The home has been finished to a high standard and includes floor-to-ceiling tiling in the bathrooms, feature lighting in the Italian travertine paving at the entrance and commercial-grade exterior cladding.

The owners had intended it to be their dream, forever home, however an international work transfer has arisen and they are selling.

“It was designed to suit all stages of life from professionals, to young family, to older kids, to downsizing, and because we were planning to remain here, no expense was spared,” they said.

“We hope someone else will enjoy our home as much as we have.”
