Quick buyers get pick of The Pocket

Natalie HordovWestern Suburbs Weekly

The Georgiou Living development includes 95 one, two and three-bedroom apartments set around a central landscaped garden.

Interest in The Pocket was strong from the start; more than half of the residences were purchased within a month of coming on to the market, and most of the buyers came from the local area.

Buyers range from young professionals in their 20s to older buyers selling the quarteracre block and making the choice to shift to apartment living.

They also include professionals living and working in the western suburbs, buyers who intend to live in their apartment later and will put their adult children in it until then. At least one couple has bought a two-bedroom apartment for themselves and a one-bedroom apartment for their son.

Georgiou Developments executive director Jon Smeulders said completion of construction had seen a fresh surge of buyer interest, with several of the remaining apartments snapped up in recent weeks.

“LandCorp is close to completing the roads and landscaping works surrounding Claremont on the Park, and the area is really taking shape,” he said.

“With construction at The Pocket now finished, people are recognising the opportunity to buy now and move in to the precinct straight away.

“The multi-million dollar redevelopment of the neighbouring Claremont Football Club, which will include a world-class gym, sports medicine facilities and a restaurant and bar, is also understood to be due for completion this year and Pocket residents will be among the first to enjoy what’s on offer on their doorstep.”

Mt Claremont resident Barrie Eves was one of the first to purchase an apartment.

“My wife had passed away and I needed to rearrange my life, but I didn’t want to look at retirement living,” he said.

“I viewed the plans and I just knew this was going to be right for me.

“The location is fantastic – I swim at the Claremont Aquatic Centre several times a week, have coffee with friends in the Claremont Quarter and regularly walk around Lake Claremont.

“I’m a sporting enthusiast and my third-floor apartment is on the 50m line of Claremont Oval and I can easily watch the football and I will also enjoy views to Claremont Quarter.”

Mr Eves bought a two-bedroom, two-|bathroom apartment and was very impressed by the quality of the interiors, including Miele appliances and Italian-made kitchen cabinetry and 2.7m high ceilings.

Other features of the development include double-glazing to each apartment – reducing the requirement for heating and cooling – energy-efficient hot water systems, car-charging stations, bicycle facilities and storage.

A solar power system supplies power to lighting in common areas, reducing levies for residents, and each apartment includes large storage areas.

At the time of writing, a single one-bedroom apartment and three two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments remained available at The Pocket, with prices starting from $485,000 for the one-bedroom residence.

Only one three-bedroom, two-bathroom plus powder room, apartment fronting the oval is available. It is priced at $1.225 million.
