A CHALLENGING and awe-inspiring build in Yallingup has claimed the title of best country home in the South-West at tonight’s Master Builders-Bankwest Building Excellence Awards for the region.

The home was sculpted from off-form concrete and stone and designed to visually cascade down the beachside site while ensuring its occupants remained protected from the region’s prevalent winds.

On the 2.1ha block, the soft curves of the home and thick stone walls reflect the granite outcrops and beaches that surround it.

A narrow path leads to the courtyard where different entrances are organised leading to the home’s main entry, a service area, parking pergola and upstairs studio.

In the entry hall, a large window frames the panoramic ocean vistas, which can also be enjoyed from the free-flowing living/dining/kitchen space, master suite and minor bedrooms.

Spilling out from the central living area is the alfresco zone with barbecue and a fireplace.

Descending a few steps, there is an infinity-edge pool with unrivalled views of the Indian Ocean.

In addition to nabbing the top title at the gala event held at Quality Hotel Lighthouse in Bunbury, the bespoke creation also won trade awards for excellence in brick and block paving, cabinetmaking, finishing carpentry, ceilings, painting as well as plastering/drywall.

It also took home the best contract home over $5 million prize.

Master Builders WA director Michael McLean said Paradigm Construction was a deserving winner.

“There were many complexities and challenges associated with this multi-million-dollar project which the builder, Armand Lizee, and his team overcame to produce an outstanding result for the clients,” he said.

“It would have been a privilege for our judges to inspect this outstanding home as the builder highlighted his expertise in using so many different building materials in keeping with the coastal environment and the ambience of the home.

“The stonemasonry is exceptional. It’s a first-class execution of the highest workmanship skills across all trades and materials used during the construction contract.

“Congratulations to Paradigm Construction in achieving such a high-quality finish in all aspects of this extraordinary home.”

The home’s success also coincides with an uptick in the South-West’s luxury home market.

“Master Builders members have reported steady work in the top end of the market, including luxury holiday homes, over the past six months,” Master Builders WA regional manager Geoff Bosustow said.

“Some builders now have work locked away for the next 18 months to two years.

“To have this level of activity at the high end of the market has increased confidence in the region and this confidence trickles through to everyone else.”

The commercial sector also celebrated the brilliance of the City of Busselton’s new Administration and Civic Centre with the best commercial project gong at the awards night.

“BGC Construction and MCG Architects/JCY Architects and Urban Designers should be commended for their commitments to consistently deliver an exceptional level of customer service throughout the project, providing a building that is architecturally stunning, highly functional and environmentally friendly,” Busselton mayor Grant Henley said.

Perkins Builders was also rewarded for their renovation of Leeuwin Estate Winery in Margaret River in the commercial/industrial alteration and addition $3 million to $4.5 million category.

After multiple wins in other categories, MarkB Building was named best new builder for the region, Cape Constructions took home the small builder of the year award, and Dale Alcock Homes South West was crowned project builder of the year.
