Burton, who recently moved to Melbourne after signing with the Boomers in the Women’s National Basketball League, recently returned from playing in Prague, Belarus and Turkey with the Opals.

The 25-year-old played in the Oceania team last year, but it is her first year playing for Australia.

Burton spent four years at West Virginia University where she played basketball and completed a finance and economics degree.

She signed with the West Coast Waves after returning to Perth two years ago, but is now seeking a new challenge.

‘I had t wo years with the Waves and just wanted to get out there and see what it’s like with other clubs,’ Burton said.

‘I’m definitely looking to play finals.

‘The Boomers played finals last year and they’ve got lots of their players back so hopefully we can win the whole thing.’

Burton said it would be tough to come up against the Waves this season.

‘It will be hard because they’re my friends and family.’
