Cricket: Nicole Bolton named in Australian women’s side to take on South Africa

Lisa ThomasWestern Suburbs Weekly

SUBIACO Floreat player Nicole Bolton has been named in the Southern Stars squad ahead of the one-day international (ODI) series against South Africa next week.

Bolton was one of 13 players selected in the side, along with fellow West Australian Elyse Villani.

No additions have been made to the side that secured their berth at the ICC Women’s World Cup in England next year, with a 5-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka in September.

The two sides will clash in five day-night ODI fixtures with ICC Women’s Championship points up for grabs in the first three matches, the top four teams at the end of the year gaining automatic qualification to next year’s World Cup.

National selector Shawn Flegler said the selection panel was pleased with the form shown by players in the early round of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL).

“We have left the door open for other players to continue to press for selection in the final two games, with strong performances in the third round of the WNCL,” he said.
