Cross country: St Hilda’s Junior School claims Champion Schools event

Bryce LuffWestern Suburbs Weekly

ST HILDA’S Junior School claimed its first ever Champion Schools Cross Country event at Mt Claremont’s McGillivray Oval.

Physical Education teacher Lara Clarke said she was extremely proud of the thirty-seven students in Year 3 to Year 6 that contributed to the win over 25 other primary schools earlier this month.

“We are exceptionally proud of the effort made by all of our students who competed,” she said.

“They have trained very hard with some students running up to three times a week, so they deserve every success that came their way.

“Although we had some wonderful individual results, to win overall is a huge team effort and as a group they should feel very proud of this achievement.”

The Year 4 and under team finished first in its division, while the Year 5 team finished in second and the Year 6 team third, giving St Hilda’s a large winning margin.

Places in the state squad were secured for Year 4 student Alex Fleming after she placed 14th in her 2km event and Year 6 student Busola Oyewopo who finished ninth in her 2.5km race.
