Cup win another belt notch for Floreat Athena

FLOREAT Athena have cemented their dominance in WA soccer after taking out the Belt Up State Cup.

The team came from behind to beat Bayswater City 2-1 at Dorrien Gardens in West Perth on Saturday.July 20

Daryl Nicol scored the first goal of the match for Bayswater before Dennis Galan levelled and Phil Arnold headed the winner for Floreat with nine minutes to go.

It marks Floreat’s seventh State Cup win and follows their National Premier Leagues WA Night Series success earlier this year, when they beat Bayswater to claim back-to-back championships.

Jesse Fuller was awarded the Stan Lazaridis Medal as player of the match.

Both teams are now preparing for their FFA Cup round of 32 matches, with Floreat playing Adelaide Olympic on Wednesday.
