Fever keen to hold onto trophy

Staff ReporterWestern Suburbs Weekly

Fever will keep hold of the trophy, which they received through a ballot draw, until they lose a home game.

Australian Diamonds player and Fever goal shooter Caitlin Bassett got the home side off to a good start, securing the first two goals of the game, but it was even from then, on with just one point between the teams at quarter time.

Fever then made their move, going in to half time with a nine-point lead.

Both teams made several changes for the second half, with Fever captain Ashleigh Brazill moving into centre and Shae Brown to wing defence.

Catherine Latu went into goal shooter for the Mystics, making an impact early on, but the combination of Josie Janz-Dawson and April Letton in Fever’s defensive circle helped Fever retain control of the game.

With six-and-a-half minutes to go in the third quarter and Fever up by 13 goals, Mystics brought on several new players but it failed to stop the home side from securing an 18-point lead going into the final term.

The home side brought in new recruit Erena Mikaere, who played on her former teammate Latu, and youngster Ingrid Colyer for the last quarter.
