Four University Football Club sides in grand finals, with A-Grade in narrow loss

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

UNIVERSITY Football Club’s A-grade team may have bowed out of the finals in the WA Amateur Football League last weekend but the club has four sides through to grand finals over the next two weekends.

The top side that finished third after the regular season had a hard-fought one-goal loss to reigning premiers Trinity Aquinas at McGillivray Oval last Saturday afternoon.

Uni had a poor start in the semi-final and was trailing by six goals at half-time before launching a second-half fight back with five third-quarter goals, led by best and fairest winner Hamish Murray, to trail by 16 points at the final break.

Trinity Aquinas got the first goal of the last term, with ex-Fremantle forward Ryan Murphy booting eight majors for the match.

Uni responded again, with Ben Taylor kicking one of his side’s two final-quarter goals but fell short 11.3 (69) to 9.9 (63).

University’s C-Colts, D1 Reserves and D1 League sides will play for premiership flags on Saturday while A-Colts will contest its grand final on September 16.
