Netball: Western Sting claims bronze in Australian Netball League

WESTERN Sting has won its third consecutive Australian Netball League (ANL) bronze medal in Sydney.

Sting lost to the Victorian Fury by nine goals in the weekend’s semi final, setting up a third place playoff with SA’s Southern Force.

The WA team started the match strongly taking a one-goal lead into the first break, before extending the margin to five at half time.

Force closed the gap in the second half before the Sting put their foot down, with goal shooter Sophie Garbin ending the match with 59 goals from 66 attempts.

Western Sting coach Michelle Wilkins said she was impressed with the way her side finished the competition.

“Our finals series was an excellent team performance,” Wilkins said.

“Players were deliberate and focused on executing the game plan and finished with their best performance.

“It was extremely pleasing to finish our finals campaign with a convincing and dominant performance.”
