Newman Churchlands Swimming Club to spend summer season at $2m newly-renovated pool facility

NEWMAN Churchlands Swimming Club members will spend their summer season training at a $2 million newly-renovated Newman College pool facility, which officially launched on Saturday.

The long-awaited renovations to the facility at Newman College are complete, with the addition of new clubrooms, meeting rooms and a gymnasium to complement the 50m pool.

Newman College funded the upgrades and the swimming club made a contribution .

Former Breakers Swim Club coach Ralph McManis has been also inaugurated as the club’s new coach.

McManis has a deep level of swim coaching experience, from swim schools through to junior and senior coaching.

“I have been a swimming coach for over 25 years after being a national medley swimmer in my teens,” he said.

“After eight years at Breakers Swim Club I am looking for a new challenge, new surroundings, a new pool and, best of all, new swimmers to help and mould into the swimmers of tomorrow.”
