Opals spot for Burton

The 24-year-old attended an Opals squad camp recently where she was named on the team that left Perth last weekend.

Burton said she attended the camp with no expectations because it was her first Opals experience.

‘I just wanted to see what that level of basketball was like,’ she said.

‘I got some good feedback from the coaches.

‘I’m looking forward to seeing what playing international basketball is like.

‘As a player growing up I was always looking at the athletes representing Australia and now I have an opportunity to play at that level.’

Burton spent four years playing basketball and studying finance and economics at West Virginia University before returning to Perth last year and playing her debut season for the Waves.

The 194cm-tall player has signed on for another year with the Perth team.

The Opals are preparing for the FIBA Women’s World Championships in Turkey in September.
