Praise for Perth pools

The short course 400m individual medley record holder recently spent two weeks in Perth visiting local coaches and hosting workshops as part of a Department of Sport and Recreation program.

He mentored Christ Church Grammar School’s (CCGS) Kirby Swim head coach Paul Bruce at Challenge Stadium and said he was impressed by the talent and facilities from Mt Claremont to Joondalup.

‘This is the first new program this Olympic cycle, and the coaches and swimmers here are very good,’ Fowlie said.

‘One of the challenges is that most swimmers in Australia and WA finish swimming when they finish school but the average age of Olympic medallists is 23, so we need to connect those dots.’
