EYES on the prize: the Perry Lakes Hawks are swooping in for a super season.

Its women’s State Basketball League (SBL) team took out the 2017 championship and are looking for back-to-back wins.

“We definitely earned it (last year), we’ve been getting closer and closer to finals,” women’s team member Annika Renkema, also a state touch rugby player, said.

“We’re aiming for top two and we’re going to come out firing.”

This year marks the first season at Perry Lakes for Lochlan Cummings, who made his debut for the Wildcats in February; he said the men’s team was pursuing its own championship win.

“It’s been a while since we’ve won one, it brings everyone together, and that’s the goal we’ve set,” he said.

Perry Lakes’ 2018 SBL season opens on Saturday, March 17, at Bendat Basketball Centre.

The women’s game begins at 6pm and the men’s at 8pm.
