AFTER winning the inaugural under-14 premiership, Nedlands rugby player Grace McFillin says she felt inspired by the Australian women’s rugby sevens winning gold at the Rio Olympics.
Grace plays for Nedlands Rugby Union Football Club in Rugby WA juniors under-14 girls competition, where her team remained undefeated during the home and away season.
The halfback said it felt great to play in the first ever rugby seven’s girls competition.
Grace’s father Alan said she also played for Nedlands under-12 side and represented the State on numerous occasions.
“In 2015, she was selected as an 11-year-old in under-12 state sides in rugby league and touch football and had been selected again in 2016 and will play in national school sports,” he said.
She is hoping for sevens representation too. Her dad said Grace capped off the season with a President’s Shield for Most Outstanding Junior Player award.
