The 15-year-old Aranmore Catholic College student took out the 14- to 15-year-old 62kg category at the National School Age Wrestling Championships in Sydney.

Just weeks later, she won gold in her category at the State Titles.

Dorko only started wrestling in December last year.

‘I just like the combat without the violence and the difficulty of putting the athlete down with different techniques,’ Durko said.

‘Wrestling is about physical and mental strength. I look at an opponent and think of different techniques to use on them.’

Durko said she was aiming to compete in the Commonwealth Games and then the Olympics.
