Toni Farnworth: Perth Lynx get burned by Sydney Uni Flames

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

Hi everyone! I’m back to update you on all things Lynx including our first game against the Sydney Uni Flames.

It’s been a long two weeks for the team since our pre-season trip to Townsville.

We have been working very hard to put the final pieces in place to start the season.

Those final pieces include import Courtney Williams who arrived last Wednesday fresh off camp with the US national team in California.

Already Courtney has brought some real confidence and energy to the group.

That brings me to our first game. The Red Army really showed out with 779 people at the Bendat Basketball Centre on Sunday for a 1pm start against last year’s champions Sydney.

The game started off very hot with both teams exchanging baskets in the in the first half.

Williams was particularly strong with 18 first half points scoring in a variety of ways.

Despite trailing by only six at half time, we were not able to contain the three-point shooting and rebounding from Sydney who pulled away to win, 92-80.

This week we have a great chance to regroup as we are off to Adelaide and Bendigo for two away games. This will give the team a good opportunity to build chemistry and hopefully get a couple of wins on the board.

You can watch Saturday’s game against Bendigo live on Fox Sports 503 from 12pm.
