Two wins give Perth Lynx some festive cheer

Toni FarnworthWestern Suburbs Weekly

WITH the club’s record winning streak secured, the atmosphere at training over the week was festive, with the girls keen to keep things rolling.

Our first game of the week against the Adelaide Lightening also proved to be a chance for the team to secure a finals berth.

The game started slowly, similar to our recent home games, as we trailed 42-46 at the half.

However, after half-time was a different story, with Courtney Williams again displaying her offensive brilliance to score 41 points on an extremely efficient 19-25 field goals. In the second half ‘Court’ was un-guardable, hitting shots from all over in a display that had the crowd on their feet.

The second game of the week saw us travel to Melbourne to take on the Boomers in a top of the table clash.

Playing the Boomers again brought with it the challenge of containing 6 foot 8 centre Liz Cambage.

Early on things started well, as we jumped out to a 32-23 point quarter time lead.

The Boomers slowly chipped that lead away in the second and third quarters, which saw the team only lead by only 1 point, 66-65, to start the fourth quarter.

The last quarter was basket for basket but on the back of some clutch shooting from Sami Whitcomb and Kayla Standish the team managed to pull out the win, 92-89.

This week we again play the Boomers back at the Bendat Basketball Centre.

With a win we will secure top spot on the table ahead of finals.

We will be looking for all the support we can get, see you there on Saturday at 12pm. Go Lynx!
