WA Premier Cricket fixtures throws up interesting opening clashes

CLAREMONT-NEDLANDS, Subiaco Floreat and University cricket clubs’ push to play finals will commence on October 8 after the 2016-17 WA Premier Cricket fixtures were released recently.

The Tigers, who were knocked out in the first round of last year’s finals, start their season away to Mt Lawley at Breckler Park, before hosting Melville at Cresswell Park in round two.

Subiaco Floreat narrowly missed last year’s finals after a late surge and will start round one away to last season’s beaten grand finalists Fremantle at Stevens Reserve, before hosting Scarborough in round two.

University finished 11th last season and will look for a winning start against Bayswater-Morley at James Oval in round one.

First and Second grade fixtures include 15 games, with eight one-day fixtures and seven two-day fixtures.

In the First grade, round five is a grand final re-match between reigning premiers Rockingham-Mandurah and Fremantle at Lark Hill while the first day of play in round 14 has also been tentatively scheduled as a ‘Past Players’ Round’ across the competition.

The Third and Fourth grade fixtures include 13 games, with six one-day fixtures and seven two-day fixtures.

The Colts fixtures include five rounds, with 17 teams competing including the Country XI.

The Premier Cricket First Grade Grand Final will be played at the WACA across two days on Saturday and Sunday March 25-26.

The One Day League Grand Final will be played on Sunday, March 5.
