WACA Premier Cricket: Claremont-Nedlands on top against Wanneroo

CLAREMONT-NEDLANDS looks likely to extend their lead at the top of the Premier Cricket table after a dominant day led by Keagan Africa against Wanneroo.

Africa was the star at Cresswell Park for the ladder-leading Tigers on Saturday, taking six first-innings wickets before securing two more late in the day to have the hosts well on top.

Earlier, Wanneroo was bowled out for just 103, with young gun Matt Spoors the only batsman to show fight with 59.

Matt Kelly continued his consistent start to the season with 2-28, with run-outs also helping the Tigers’ cause.

The Tigers went in search of quick runs as they declared at 6-197 in their first innings.

Jake Whiteaker scored 59 before Nick Hobson (43) and Tim David (42n.o.) lifted the run rate.

Travis Birt smashed boundaries late in the innings as the Tigers declared with 20 minutes remaining in the day.

The Roos are in all sorts of trouble at 3-1 at the close of play, still trailing by 93 runs.

Africa and Kelly shared the wickets, with the quicks combining for all 11 wickets taken with the ball.

The Tigers look every bit the team to beat six rounds in.

Subiaco Floreat has already secured first-innings points against University, with the hosts now pushing for an outright victory against the bottom-placed side at Floreat Park Oval.

The Students lost wickets at regular intervals to be 123 all out.

Daniel Moore top-scored with a solid 55, while Andrew Holder was outstanding with the ball, taking 6-43.

Subiaco Floreat looked in early trouble, falling to 4-28 before Aaron Lilly and Englishman Tom Moores steadied the ship.

The hosts finished the day 5-125 and will be in search of quick runs as they look to take 20 wickets for the match.
