CLAREMONT Nedlands’ Haydan Morton has spun his way into the 100-wicket club, bringing up the milestone in his side’s round 6 win over Mt Lawley in the Premier Cricket competition.
The left-arm off-spinner debuted for Wanneroo before shifting to Claremont Nedlands, where he has spent the past four seasons bamboozling opposition batsmen with his variety of spin.
“I think I’ve just focussed on being more accurate and building pressure,” Morton said.

READ NOW“Turk (teammate Daniel Turkich) and I have been able to form a really good partnership over a few years, which has helped my bowling a fair bit.
“I’m more of a defensive bowler, so just being consistent and playing my role for the team is the best part for me.”
Morton has been in fine form this season, taking the most wickets (15) for the ladder-leading Tigers and sitting sixth overall.
“It’s definitely a great achievement,” Morton said.
“I didn’t even know how many wickets I was sitting on, so I certainly wasn’t expecting the milestone to come about.
“It means a lot, but playing with my mates and celebrating wins with them is the best part.”
The Tigers have taken all before them in season 2017-18, sitting first on the ladder without a loss after six rounds, which Morton put down to the new coaching staff.
“We’ve had a few changes, new coaches with some different perspectives, it’s nice to hear a new voice sometimes,” he said.
“The training sessions have been a bit more relaxed this season too, which has helped.”
Although the Tigers cannot be faulted in their start to the season, Morton said there were still improvements to be made both from a team and personal perspective.
And the spinner made no secret of Claremont Nedlands’ ambitions from the season.
“Hopefully a couple of flags,” he said.
“I think our form and my form has been pretty good so far this season, there’s always room for improvement though, for all of us.
“We are pretty well-placed at the moment though, so hopefully we’ll be there come the end of the year.”
Claremont Nedlands will resume its two-day match against Melville on Saturday at 11:40am at Tompkins Park 1.
