WACA Premier Cricket: Subiaco skipper Hansberry’s haul can’t stop South Perth

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

SUBIACO Floreat skipper Chris Hansberry took five wickets but couldn’t prevent South Perth from posting a strong score on day one of their Premier Cricket clash on Saturday.

South Perth finished the day at 9-273 at Floreat Park Oval, with Brooke Guest top scoring with 97.

Hansberry ripped through the Sky Blues middle order, reducing them to 8-217 but some late hitting helped the visitors to set Subi an awkward target this Saturday.

Andrew Holder chipped in with another two wickets for the finals hopefuls.

Elsewhere, Englishman Harry Podmore took four wickets as University enjoyed a strong day against Melville despite Adam Voges’ century at James Oval.

The struggling Students bowled out Melville for 187 before finishing the day at 0-17 from six overs.

Uni, without skipper Will Bosisto, did well with Podmore finishing with 4-47 while Tim Young and Ashton Agar claimed two wickets apiece.

Ladder leaders Claremont-Nedlands claimed first innings points on the first day against Gosnells at Cresswell Park.

Jack Cattrall took 3-15 as the Tigers rolled the Hawks for 106 inside 54 overs, before finishing the day at 2-140.

Nick Hobson (70n.o.) and Tim David (48n.o.) were unbeaten at the crease as the Tigers search for an outright win this Saturday.
