Water Polo: western suburbs players to test waters at FINA Youth World Championships

Tim Putt (17), Jed Thompson (17), Lachlan Vos (16) and Christian Kyriakou (16) will travel with the Australian team to Podgorica in Montenegro for the tournament.

Putt said it was the first time any of them had played at the world championships.

“We’re really excited to play at the event,” he said.

“It will be a great experience.

“We’ve got a strong and close team, so I’m confident we will do well.”

The team will travel to Europe this month to train and play practice tournaments in Hungary and Greece.

Putt said he was looking forward to playing against teams from all over the world.

“We’re hoping this is a stepping stone to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020,” he said.

The 2016 FINA Youth Water Polo World Championships will run from August 26 to September 3.
