Wembley Netball Club introduces junior team

Denise S. CahillWestern Suburbs Weekly

WEMBLEY Netball Club has a junior team playing in the Perth Netball Association competition for the first time in its 24-year history.

The club, which is part of the Wembley Athletic Club that includes AFL, cricket, baseball and basketball, also debuted its new uniform, the fourth since the club started.

President Susan McGuane said the aim of the junior team was to establish talent development from the junior age group and provide a strong pathway from juniors to seniors.

“We were also fortunate to have a long standing club member, Kylie Underwood, who is a skilled coach to take on the role of junior co-ordinator,” McGuane said.

“Her daughter Grace is now part of the inaugural Wembley junior team.

“The girls have come together from different schools and had a wonderful performance in round 1 with a great win, 36-4.”

The junior team adds to the club’s 11 senior teams that compete in divisions 1-13.

McGuane said the club was looking forward to a successful season and growing the junior program for 2020 and beyond.
