The Year 10 student also won the Amy Safe (Gillett) Award, voted by the players, at the recent National School Girls Championships in Launceston.
‘It was so good that other players saw I was a good sport and tried hard,’ Taylor said.
‘I was so shocked when my name got called out (for the squad).’
Selectors chose the squad at the championships, where WA lost to Queensland 38-26 in the final.
Taylor, a centre-court player, started playing netball when she arrived in Perth from South Africa.
‘Netball wasn’t very big there, so I was doing tennis, running and swimming,’ she said. ‘All my friends at school were playing so I decided to join them.’
Taylor plays for the West Coast Falcons at the Wanneroo Districts Netball Association, Kingsway.
