Poetry manages to evoke deep emotion, yet how does the poet achieve this? How do words on a page trigger feelings in the body?
Poets engage our five senses: sight, sound, taste, touch and hearing.
Have you ever wanted to enhance your poetry? If you’re worried that your poetry isn’t strong, that your metaphors are wobbly, and that no one will be interested in your subject matter, then join Vivienne Glance to put your mind at ease! Her workshop is an introduction to poetry: Poetry of the Senses.
Vivienne will provide some props to encourage an awakening of the senses, such as scented herbs and perfumes, highly textured objects (e.g. cloth, rocks, tree bark etc.), soundscapes, tasty and not-so-tasty snacks etc.
Touch, taste, sound, sight and smell – how we furnish our poems with sensations can help them live in the reader’s imagination.
During this workshop, you will generate new writing by engaging all 5 senses, as well as expand your poetic vocabulary, expressions, use of metaphor, and more.
