Movie screening of ‘Lion’, raising funds for the Platform Kids Fund

The movie ‘Lion’ is a 2016 film directed by Garth Davis and written by Luke Davies, based on the non-fiction book ‘A Long Way Home’ by Saroo Brierley.

The movie stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham, and Nicole Kidman.

Five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple.

Twenty five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology of Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

The Platform Kids Fund (PKF) is a West Australian charity, devoted to raising funds and providing funds exclusively for its Indian partner, the Platform Children Society (PCS) based in Andhra Pradesh.

This charity has been working since 1998 intent on rehabilitating vagrant children like Saroo, found on or near the railway platforms in India.

The movie showing will be on Sunday afternoon January 29th, 3.45pm at the Grand Cinemas Cygnet, 16 Preston Street, Como. Perth.
