Perth will host the Australian debut of original Agatha Christie-style murder mystery dinners, with monthly shows by acclaimed UK theatre company, Cluedunnit at Rigby’s Bar in the CBD. Opening in June and running monthly until December, the three-hour shows are a must for fans of murder crime dramas.
Expect a mix of mystery and mayhem in a classic ‘whodunnit’ experience, led by six professional actors and served over a three-course dinner, where guests become detectives in the plot to solve the crime.
Led by multi-award-winning British artistic director Robbie Burns, Cluedunnit is one of the most established and acclaimed murder mystery theatre companies in the UK. Its Perth shows are the first in Australia.
DYING TO ENTERTAIN YOU
Cluedunnit’s creative writing team is reputed for its amusing and devious plots. The company is the resident performance group on Burgh Island, the very place Agatha Christie wrote her famous novel, ‘And then there were none’, adding an air of authenticity to the mystery.
The Perth shows feature a cast of 20 professional local actors who will rotate through the performance nights, bringing variety and spontaneity to each show.
“We conducted extensive auditions here in Perth and have assembled a strong company of exceptional local actors,” Robbie said.
The scene for each murder is set by lead actor and storyteller Glenn B Swift, well known for his performances around Perth. A cast of six actors per show portray suspects in the evening’s plot. Audience members do not become characters in the story, rather they are the detectives who try to solve the mystery based on clues and hints from the actors.
The first vital clues are revealed by the actor ‘suspects’ over pre-dinner drinks, as they mingle with guests on arrival. They then join in for dinner, circulating during the night to give audience members the chance to glean vital evidence to solve the mystery of ‘whodunnit?’.
“The action and clues flow thick and fast, and the performance is continuous,” said Robbie. “There is always frenetic competition among the audience as they attempt to reveal the true murderer.”
