THE damage bill of the inferno that gutted a Bunnings store in Inglewood has been estimated at $5 million, with investigators yet to determine if the blaze was deliberately lit.

The response to the fire peaked at about 100 fire fighters at 11pm last night.

Just 10 remain there this morning as a massive clean up operation gets underway.

The building is being tightly monitored in case it collapses onto neighbouring properties.

“Because of the building being quite fragile and unstable… they’re still being very cautious,” a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said.

Environmental officers are monitoring the scene for fumes and chemical spills.

Crews were called to the fire just before 9pm between 7th and 8th avenues off Beaufort Street.

The blaze is contained but a road block is in place heading north between 6th and 9th avenues.

Traffic is heavy for motorists heading into the city.

Expect delays.
