SOUTH Perth’s Mends Street precinct has been given new life, with live entertainment, kids’ activities and stalls brimming with fresh WA produce as part of the weekly Mends Street Farmers Market.

Launched in October, the Sunday market has proved a huge success with the community and local traders.

“It is bringing a positive vibe to the street; people are coming and chatting about the different stall holders and what they have seen on the previous Sunday, excited for the next week,” Rucoco Beauty owner Brenda Brown said.

The free family-friendly event, supported by the City of South Perth as part of its $7.5 million Connect South project, has increased foot traffic and provided a significant boost for businesses in the area.

Spaced Out Placemaking consultant David Snyder said the idea for the market was born from a series of meetings with businesses along Mends Street, who wanted to support local activities in the area.

Hosted by Community First Events in collaboration with Spaced Out Placemakers, Mends Street Farmers Market will run throughout summer, from 8am to 12pm each Sunday.
